Car is with the dealer at the moment and have discussed with one of their service advisors. I was advised the usual fault is the loose bolt that causes the compressor just to freewheel and do nothing, a fairly common problem with earlier MK6's; its a design flaw with the compressor and it cannot be repaired.

not in a/c mode:- When I turn on the climatronic system in MANUAL mode, the two centre vents (above the radio) work perfectly when blowing out COLD AIR (at any blower speed e.t.c however if I then turn the temp up, the centre vents cut out (after going past around 20 - 22 and the HOT AIR is re-directed to the windscreen/footwell Vents ONLY. Condenser online around £100 or £640 if I get Vw to do it. There is a video on youtube showing how it is done. All in Mandarin with cheesy techno music but you get the idea. Looks straight forward. Just need someone to sort out the aircon gas for you. Logged. Ed30 #1185.

so I recently bought a mk5 golf and have a problem with my brake lights. When I press on the brake pedal, the brake lights do no come on. I have checked the brake light switch and it appears it doesn’t have one. So I get the part and try to fit it but as I do I realise there is not a connector to plug the switch into.

Re: How to diagnose air con problems. My air con packed up (07' gti) and I instantly thought compressor however it turned out to be the valve instead and a £120 fix which I managed to get for £60 with a 50% contribution from vw. You will need a aircon re-gas with an added dye to see if & what's leaking then take it from there.
Re: air con not working : « Reply #7 on: June 07, 2014, 01:59:15 am » ahh this is a massive help for me guys, my mate with vcds is on holiday so I'm going to have to wait until he is back to plug in, it was plugged in with generic scanner, which I find a waste of time!! the reason for air con regas are pretty similar too the reason for the brake fluid change every 2 years the aircon drier will become saturated with moisture (for those that dont know it collects the moisture in the R134a gas and stores it inside itself) so vacuuming the system for around 30 mins will remove 99% of all that moisture .
